Paul Van Dyk is an asshat that needs to grow the F up. Did some huge band give their profits to Radiohead back when they were starting out? I don't think so. While we're at it, maybe PVD can start funding young wannabe DJs. I could use a new mixer. Asshat.

PvD rules. I side with him.

its simplistic to judge what radiohead did almost 2 years ago with in rainbows. the music industry has changed alot over recent years. everyone is struggling to find a biz model that works for them in the download era.

#4 Get over it says:

Let it go Paul van what's your name,it's nearly 2 years ago.You is a bit of a nob really.Who is you anyway. It was a masterstroke by Radiohead and the fact we are still talking about it today shows it.

#5 rogerroger says:

YEAH some huge "Band" gave Radiohead money when they started out- it was called a record label because people still got music for free and it helped Radiohead develop a career and brand out of their band.....DJ or not PvD has a point.

#6 ironlung says:

Jealousy is a bitch. I guess Radiohead should never make money, label or no label. Any money made off their brilliant music should fund other wannabe's. Get over yourself roger. That comment was asinine.

#7 yo says:

what is pvd's point? that music is downloaded for free? or that the industry has changed? duh. radiohead make music. they are not 'selfish' in trying to find a distribution model that works for them. to compare upcoming artists with radiohead doesnt make much sense. in rainbows was not the point at which kids said 'hey.. music should be free. its worth nothing' pvd thinks that established bands should give $ to emerging artists. i guess thats another business model. not a great one.

#8 pdx_tag says:

His argument is awful. He is trying to support a business model that is broken. Radiohead, NIN, etc. see the future and how they can make money in the environment. I feel sorry for him.

#9 Jordan Catalano says:

Oh, RogerRoger. That's some half-assed logic right there. No record label just "gave" Radiohead anything. They surely received advances and promo support--just like hundreds and even thousands of other acts that were getting signed in the late '80s/early '90s.

Out of all of those bands, it was Radiohead had the drive, vision, talent and ability to develop their career/brand to a point that they could pull of something like "In Rainbows."

PVD is a fool. And until he goes out and gives a new DJ a boatload of $$ to do what he thinks Radiohead should, he's also a hypocrite.

Hey, I'm a bigger fan of DJs than most. But what's coming out of PVD's mouth is simply ridiculous.

#10 Hipocrito says:

Maybe PvD should give money to all of the unknown producers whose tracks he's played over the years. It's not like he made a name for himself by producing his own material.
